This week's video is all about getting to the net. We all think of Alex Ovechkin and his one-timer from the left circle as his signature method of goal scoring. However, there is no way to reach 800 career goals and counting without his instincts and willingness to get to (and STOP at) the net. All three goals from his hat trick last night to reach 800 are from simply getting to the net and stopping there. None of them are highlight worthy, but all of them count!
PLAYERS: The area around the net front/blue paint is the bank...If you want to get money, go to the bank...If you want to score goals, get to the net!
COACHES: Make sure we are teaching our players to get to and stop at the net thru reinforcement, drills, and games that require and reward it. Make stopping at the net a habit. Also, practicing those little net front puck skills in controlled, reactionary, and pressure-filled situations is paramount to producing goals.
