This week's video is an example of the often overlooked and underappreciated passing skill called The Hook Pass. The Hook Pass refers to the passing motion a player uses to get the puck around an opponent or obstacle to the receiving target. It begins with a push of the puck using the heel of the blade to advance the puck forward and change the passing angle. It is quickly followed by the rotation of the wrists to roll the blade over and move the puck from heel to toe to complete the "hook" pattern and propel/spin the puck toward its destination.
Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars provides us with an excellent example of this skill to get the puck to Matt Duchene for the game-winning goal in overtime.
The final component of the clip is the completely unrelated but hilarious scene from the movie Slap Shot with the character Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken of the Syracuse Bulldogs.
