This week's video pays tribute to a legendary spot in Batavia, NY called the POK-A-DOT. In business since 1953, this little 20' x 20' restaurant is known for its' Beef on Weck (Roast Beef on a Kimmelweck Roll...with "juice" and horseradish of course), it's funky decor, and family atmosphere. It's a local staple of the community just a few blocks from the ice rink. If you're ever in town for a game, stop by "The DOT" for a post-game meal.
This week's clip covers the idea that, even at the most advanced levels of hockey, you are never too good to spend time on the simple details of the game. Former NHL player, coach, and Hall of Famer - Adam Oates currently makes his living as an individual player consultant helping NHL players to find areas of improvement to their game and work to maximize their potential for success. You won't find his methods on Instagram or TikTok wowing social media users...mostly because he's only interested in getting his players results...even if it means covering the basics. In this particular video, he speaks on the Real Kyper and Bourne show about how he begins each session with his players. We follow that up with an example from last night's Kings vs Blue Jackets game where elite defenseman Zach Werenski makes a great, simple play in the neutral zone to send Johnny Gaudreau on a fast break for the game's first goal.
Sometimes, the answers are so simple and right in front of you. You just have to be willing to see them. Then you have to be willing to put your ego aside and use them. Just like the POK-A-DOT, simple works.
